Extractions especially wisdom teeth extractions are a fairly common procedure. Wisdom teeth often cause problems as they are trying to protrude through the gums .When a wisdom tooth is impacted it means it may not have enough room to come completely into the mouth properly. This can cause pain, swelling, infection, and can even cause the loss of other healthy teeth.
When a wisdom tooth only emerges partially this can make the tooth hard to clean, and pieces of food may be caught under the skin and making it easy for an infection, swelling and pain to develop.
Teeth, both baby and adult, are often removed for a variety of reasons. These reasons could include crowding, cavities, and infections, just to name a few.
Non salvageable teeth and wisdom teeth that can potentially cause problems, like pain and infections, need to be removed. Extractions can range from a single tooth, multiple teeth, or removing all four wisdom teeth at once. Based on the preference of the doctor and the patient, a local anesthetic, nitrous gas, and or sedation will be used. Please view our sedation section under the technology tab for additional information.
